San Francisco Port of Embarkation
Known as San Francisco Port of Embarkation, port Mason is located in Marina District at San Francisco Bay. Serving as a coastal defense site for more than 100 years, it played an important role in both Civil War and the World War II. Particularly, during the World War II, this site was responsible for handling the largest part of the American cargo involved into the Pacific campaign.

I decided to visit this historical place not only because it is recognized as a part of the Golden Gate Recreation Area, but also due to the variety of cultural facilities located at the port Mason. Though the construction of fortifications started during the Civil War, the port played a more important role in the Second World War. There is evidence that this historically significant district comprises about 49 historical buildings. Unfortunately, I was pressed for time during my visit to port Mason. I was there on a business trip and had to return home to work on essays in college and term papers writing on Biochemistry. For this reason, I visited only San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. Still, the excursion at this park and the exhibits which I saw during that tour produced an unforgettable impression upon me. I decided to visit this historical site again next summer because it allows not only enhancing my knowledge on the events of the World War II, but also relaxing on the sand beaches of San Francisco Bay
